Succeed in School

Succeed in School is an after-school program approved by the Board of Education of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It helps youth, ages 11-18, progress academically, prepare for higher education, and become self-reliant disciples of Jesus Christ.

Students gather weekly in Church buildings, where volunteer teachers teach lessons such as reading, writing, English, mathematics, exam preparation, and study and life skills. Succeed in School operates through Seminaries & Institutes and prepares students for BYU-Pathway Worldwide.

“Succeed in School has a great curriculum where youth improve in secular material, but there is also the spiritual element combined with it, which is why it succeeds...We’re seeing in many places that their scores on national exams really have soared. We’re helping youth succeed in the schools where they are.”

“I have always felt embarrassed coming to seminary classes because I struggled to read and comprehend. Because I struggled, my friends laughed at me, and this affected my participation, and I started losing interest and eventually stopped coming to class.

When I heard that Succeed in School was here to teach reading and writing, I was so determined to come to the class and surprise my friends. I have improved so much in reading both my schoolwork and scriptures. I now come to seminary classes every day and I know that it is preparing me for my full-time missionary service.”
